Landscape Design
A special service for gardeners available through our Division Street location : 9000 SE Division St. Portland, OR 97266. If you are interested in renovating your yard yourself, but would like guidance on how to go about it, a landscape design from Portland Nursery is your solution.
Steps to Obtaining a Design...
- Print and fill out a Landscape Questionnaire. Be sure to get input from everyone who will live with the garden.
- Measure your site, following the instructions found on the questionnaire.
- Bring printed photos of your site (please do not email) to your consultation.
- Call 503-788-9000 ext. 215 to set up a consultation appointment with our designer. Consultation are available by appointment only and typically last 30 min. to 1 hr. We prefer to have all adult family members present at the consultation.
- Our design service fees are based on your project size. Consultation fee is due at the first appointment; planting plan fee is due when you return to pick up your customized planting plan.
Our designer will work with you to create a custom planting plan and plant list.
Designs are created in-office and rely on site measurements and photographs received by the customer at the initial consultation. Focus is on plant composition.
Although placement of hardscapes may be suggested, we do not design or create construction drawings for such things as decks, water features, paths, patios, etc.
Portland Nursery does not install or maintain gardens, however for an additional fee, we can plant your containers purchased from the nursery.
Having a planting plan drawn up by someone who knows plants can help maximize your budget by taking some of the trial and error out of plant selection.
With a planting plan from Portland Nursery, you'll be assured that the right plants are chosen for your site. We can help troubleshoot tricky site conditions, such as small spaces or hot-and-dry parking strips. We are also great at creating a seamless transition from home interior to garden. The more information you bring to the table, the more successful the design will be.

Fees are based on your project size. To determine your square footage, multiply overall length by width.
*Planting Plan fee is in the form of a gift card you purchase for yourself.
This keeps your project economical as the gift card can then be used for plants and merchandise at either of our stores and never expires!
0 - 100 square feet
$100 consultation fee/
$150 planting plan fee*
-a small perennial border, parking strip planting, indoor or outdoor container planting.
101 - 300 square feet
$150 consultation fee/
$300 planting plan fee*
-focal bed in an existing garden, large mixed borders, entryway plantings.
301 - 500 square feet
$200 consultation fee/
$500 planting plan fee*
-front or back yard, large themed garden.
501 - 1000 square feet
$250 consultation fee/
$600 planting plan fee*
-full front and back yard of avg lot size.
1001+ square feet
$250+ consultation fee/
$600+ planting plan fee*
($600 for 1001 sq.ft. + $50 for each additional 100 sq.ft.)
-full design for front, back and side yards.
NOTE: Portland Nursery does not design hardscapes, install or maintain landscapes. We are happy to refer you to area licensed professionals to assist you with these services.

A Pacific Northwest native, Terrie holds a degree in Landscape Technology and is a certified landscape designer. She has a knack for finding landscape solutions that are both practical and beautiful, and is especially fond of a style she calls 'Northwest Eclectic', a designed mixture of wildlife friendly, ornamental, and edible plants with strong four-season interest.
